HUGE VACUUM TUBE COLLECTION
Переглядів 74 тис.Рік тому
This is the big project I have been working on the past month. Finally finished and here is the result! This tube collection is mostly donated by Carlton, who has been collecting tubes for many years, especially the past ten years or so. Several other people have also donated to the collection. I will maintain the collection until I am no longer able to, hopefully for another 20 years or longer.

I have a stupid Question.. was it me or was the Clock second hand going the wrong direction? Just wondering :)
The clock mechanism is a very early type that will run either direction. I put it backwards in the video to see if anyone would notice!
@@glasslinger I herd you saying that it worked both directions. I was just step by step, When I entered into Electronics repair was in the mid 80's that kind of electronics were still around but dying fast. Thank you for your response :)
Do you have a fiberglass pencil for corrosion?
How do you decide the size of fuse to use?
Watching here host. Great sharing. God bless
I really, really, REALLY hate autofocus that apparently cannot be turned off. Hate it!
I luv your videos you are a very intelligent engineer, thank you for your time to pass on the knowledge. 👍
Love your video, just started working an old radio of my late husban your video helped a lot.
wow
You absolutely rock, Sir! Thank you for the work you put to make this knowledge available for us.
Were these handmade tubes experimental items, or were they actually used as practical amplifiers?
Tubes exactly like this were used from 1912 until about 1918 in radios of that time! Several hundred thousand of them were made over that period!
Why dos the clock runs backwords?
This is an antique clock that can run either way. I put it backwards in the video to see if anyone would notice! :)
Doesn't the getter needs to be flashed after the vaccum sealing to "convert" all remaining "air" molecules to get a "cleaner" vaccum?
The getter itself outgasses significantly during flashing. It is best to let the pump take this extra gas out so it doesn't use up the getter. The getter will continue to absorb after the seal off.
what voltage did you use to test it at timestamp @4:19 ?
Normal line voltage. I have a watt meter and an electronic circuit breaker to protect the set. If the watt meter reads higher than what is stamped on the nameplate the capacitors are leaky. If there is a major overload, the electronic breaker cuts the power immediately.
Lol poor cat 🐈 getting blamed😂
People who could find the active area of diode way back, were worth their weight in gold
Muy bien por restauralo asus origuenes, bien hecho!!!!!
That set is a LOT Older than the 1960s. More like late '40s/early '50s.
Crosley 58 Buddy Boy Radio US $202.50 ebay
Amazing! Back when I got this one they were $500 and up. (not restored) Prices depend on at least two people that want the item. I think the economy is a lot worse than the demorats are purporting!
@@glasslinger hi there love your videos yours was the best one i have ever seen vary clean it looked like new hugs thanks for your reply wheelchair larry 😍🥰😼😻😹😸
At the end the second hand runs backwards😆Thank you for sharing your interesting radiorepairs👍
Its a time machine.!!
@@kay110 👍😁
glasslinger could you do a video of making vintage style paper foil capacitors sealed in bees wax?
Since the vibrator makes an artificial sine wave, does that mean that the heaters are meant to be operated off of alternating current?😮
No, cars had six volt batteries back in the day you just let the car charge the battery up😮
Air Chief was made by Firestone
So great ! ❤🎉
You are truly a great artist Ron! Thank you for you videos!
Why?
Dear Young Lady, Do you have a circuit diagram of this very antique radio, please ?
No, I don't know the model of it. It is not in the Riders manual.
@glasslinger Ok, thanks and regards.
I love seeing your cat again, always makes me smile as out cat Lily is very similar, very talkative and needs to inspect everything we are doing. Thanks for the lovely video as always. Keep well. Also, when you were fighting with the signal generator - "Why the hell don't they just put a F***ing knob on it and be done with it!" Made me nearly spit out my tea.
Leak detector? Low buck? ..Run your UHV, then slowly bring helium (lecture tank) tiny nozzle .. near the suspected leak/hole & watch your gauge.
"What's wrong with everyone..?" I wasn't there that day!! I would have definitely bid against you at least for a while. Ha. Nice restore and beautiful too! Interesting IF set up. Cheers
beautiful repair, thank you
I watched a lady UA-camr named "Jdflyback" make 2 tubes for an audio amplifier.
That was an incredible display of your vast knowledge of electronics and electrical technology!!! You have a vast pool of experience and expertise in applications that are awesome!!! I did notice the clock running backwards… maybe that’s your secret… a time machine!!! Well done Glasslinger!!
A very beautiful clock radio and a time machine, the clock runs backwards-a time travel into the past.
Love the reverse-engineering, clock. Share your sentiments re overcomplicated, so-called modern, test equipment.
What model is that complicated signal generator ?
Great to see a new video from you when I switched on this morning . Super radio . So unusual . Best wishes from the UK
I wouldn't be able to resist printing a reversed clock face and running it backwards all the time!
It's amazing how many people have that special something at which they excel. Ron's electrical knowledge is a wonder to behold, and he has an outstanding aptitude for the practical. Unfortunately, I'm not sure what my special skill is? I think I'm probably mediocre at a lot of things! Oh well, never mind. I suppose I excel at mediocrity? 🤣
Possibly you are expert at eating! He, he, he!
Why do some people just use all caps in messages? Is it so they don’t have to worry about using proper word format or is it because they are screaming everything? I guess it takes too much effort to properly type something?
Some people honestly don't know it's considered shouting, but I suspect the person you are referring to is just obnoxious and is oblivious to using caps lock. The all caps is just another reason to ignore them.
I hope you live as long as you want!
Very nice !
Clock is running backwards (53:49)
the little shaft on the left side of the clock back is the starter shaft I think you can spin the works either way with that shaft. I have a late 1920s wall clock with the same works..
By the way a lot of people tell me that im the youngest person of all who understands theese thing im only 15 years old
How mich vacum is in your gomemade vacum tubes
After several days the getter takes the pressure down to 10-7 torr or better.
I have sent you my email 5 times youtube does not seem to accept it
its a clock that goes back to the future, seems to work well for a trf set , we dont see any of this stuff down in AUSTRALIA
Why is the clock going backwards?
OK
